H Squared Is Here
Multiplied by itself.
To a higher degree.
Intensified.
Perfectly accurate.
Done or completed.
Equal or fair.
A gathering place.
All of these are ways to define “square” or “squared.” H Squared could mean H to higher degree. H intensified. Completing tasks accurately. Creating a place for thoughts to gather and make sense.
H Squared Communications is all of these things―sometimes intense, always accurate, and a place for ideas to come to life. It also is uniquely Heather Hitterdal.
That’s me!
When I got married and my last name changed, almost immediately people began to give me nicknames based on the alliteration of my new initials―HH. That soon became Double H, and then to some H Squared. When the idea began to marinate in my brain to start my own communications consulting business, I wanted to choose a name that had meaning and felt very much like me but that also would be memorable and straight forward. The decision was an easy one―H Squared Communications.
Sioux Falls has many advertising and marketing agencies, but few companies that specialize in strategic communications. Recently, several people have asked me what the difference is between communications and marketing. There likely are many different ways to define each, but here’s my answer: Communications informs. Marketing sells.
I am in the communications consulting business, and sometimes that includes a bit of marketing, but more importantly it is providing the information people need to make good decisions. Good communications are authentic and concise. Good communications can be trusted. You know good communications when you don’t feel the need to question motive. And good communications don’t just benefit the intended audience but should align with your company or organization’s business objectives to move you forward.
Before anything else I have ever become, I was a writer, and today writing is what comes the most naturally to me. This blog will be a place for me to be creative just for me, and it also will share slices of my thought processes as I work with my clients. Once in a while it will share communications tips and advice. Much of my personality and knowledge base comes from about 350 miles west of Sioux Falls where I grew up in the Black Hills, so this blog will sometimes offer the point of view of this West River girl now acclimated to city life.
Starting my own business has been a huge growing experience, and I have learned so much through this process. But when it comes to strategic communications, that’s my specialty. No need to wait around. Let’s get started. Together.
